The Sacrifice of Isaac by Caravaggio

Video in Italian | Abraham is ready to kill his son but an angel stops his hand just in time...

The angel by Caravaggio lives on earth with us. He is not coming from the sky above.
It is not irrelevant at all!

Today we are going to speak about the Sacrifice of Isaac executed in 1603.

It is the paradox of the Faith: Abraham is ready to kill his only son Isaac at the behest of God. But here comes the angel that stops the hand of Father Abraham before his sacrifice.

Søren Kierkegaard, one of the most important philosophers of Western thought, addresses that issue in the pages of Fear and Trembling (1843).

Because choosing is always the greatest of sacrifices!
