The Resistance in Art

Video in Italian | The Battle of San Martino and Solferino of 24th June 1859 painted by Corrado Cagli

Each battle, thanks to the creative impulse of the reaction it elicits, leaves its memory in art.
Here the Battle of San Martino and Solferino of 24th June 1859, during the Second Italian War of Independence, fought for the formation of what would be independent Italy thereafter.
Corrado Cagli (1910-1976), brave artist in times of censorship, gave birth to a surreal and metaphysical battlefield, which echoes the results of the Battle of San Romano by Paolo Uccello of 1438, but at the same time aims at celebrating the Resistance movement's ideals and the Liberation of Art.
This is our tribute for April 25, Liberation Day of Italy.
