Tomato time in the Boboli Gardens!

Video in Italian | The different varieties of tomato still cultivated in the Medicean Gardens

Not so easy to talk about tomatoes!
The varieties cultivated in the Boboli Gardens are more than one.
Even if it is really difficult for us to think of Italian cuisine without the colour and flavour of tomato, the origin of this vegetable is not local.
It is a non-native cultivation imported to Europe from Central America in the 1500s, soon after the discovery of the New World and immediately introduced into the Medici Grand Dukes' Gardens.
