Adriano Maggiani - The Etruscans in modern and contemporary art

Lecture in Italian - Vasari Auditorium – 31st July 2019

Professor of Etruscology and Italian Antiquities at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Adriano Maggiani addresses the subject of inspiration that many Italian artists of the 20th century have found in the classic world, especially in the Etruscan one. In searching for hints of such inspiration, he underlines how archeology has influenced the sculpture of those years and puts forth a series of comparisons between  ancient artworks and twentieth-century works, paying particular attention to Tuscan artist Marino Marini.
