Pitti Palace, restoration works begin
The Medici Palace is undergoing significant renovations, with an investment exceeding one million euros.
Major restoration and refurbishment work is currently underway on the first floor of the palace, in the Palatine Gallery, and on the second floor, in the Modern Art Gallery. The total cost of the project is estimated at over one million euros.
In the Palatine Gallery, the work will involve the rooms of the Quartiere del Volterrano and the rooms of Ulysses, the Education of Jupiter, Jupiter, Saturn and the Iliad. This wing of the palace, which opens onto the Boboli Gardens, housed the apartments of Grand Duchess Vittoria della Rovere and then other members of the family in the 17th century, before becoming an integral part of the new museum.
The work will involve the maintenance and restoration of wooden furnishings and sumptuous tables with precious marble tops that decorate all the rooms. Other operations will include dusting the frescoed walls and stuccoes, cleaning the antique chandeliers, maintaining the paintings and restoring the fabrics covering the walls of the rooms and some tapestries.
The project on the upper floor of the Modern Art Gallery involves the restoration of the Salone del Fiorino and the nearby Sala della Musica. This will include dusting and refurbishing the stuccoes and frescoes.
The programme of works, which has just begun, will continue until spring 2026. The work initially involves the Sala di Berenice and the Sala delle Allegorie in the Volterrano Quarter of the Palatine Gallery. The wallpaper has been removed from the walls in preparation for cleaning. This will be followed by the restoration of antique decorative items, including tables, doors and windows.
