This court mantle was made for Donna Franca Florio, who was appointed lady-in-waiting to the Queen Elena of Savoy in May 1902. Donna Flo-rio wore the mantle at the courts of Emperor Franz Joseph in Vienna and of Kaiser Wilhelm II in Berlin.
The mantle is made of ice-white damask silk satin trimmed and decorated with floral motif appliques in pink and ivory white, whose outlines are in thread rolled and embroidered with silver sequins, small pearl beads and rhinestones. The hem of the train is trapezoidal in shape, its edges trimmed with ruches and small white organza roses. The mantle has straps with bows over the shoulders and hooks to ensure it clings to the waist. The lining is white silk.
