Date
1934 c.
Inventory

This long black silk georgette and satin dress, fitted at the waist, with a pointed neckline and small lapels, has short puffed sleeves in georgette trimmed with satin, with a stiff interior gros-grain shoul- der strap gripping the volume of the gathers at the shoulders. The full, flared skirt has three layers, each one consisting of two geor- gette panels cut in a full wheel. Madeleine Vionnet worked with Thayaht, (Ernesto Michahelles 1893-1959) in the course of a lengthy stay in Rome that began immediately after the outbreak of World War I. Thayaht designed the logotype that appears on the maison’s labels together with the couturière’s fingerprint. This dress belonged to Margarete Ohmann Armando (1891-1977), an opera singer from Berlin. Donated by Gilda Coelho, 1996
