The ice houses of the Boboli Gardens

Video in Italian | The domed ice houses and the avantgarde cooling system

Bizarre domed architetcures, the Boboli Gardens' ice houses, on the right side of the Amphitheatre at the top of the hill, were provided with an avantgarde hydraulic system designed to store ice all year round.
Built in the 1600s on the old holes for ice commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici in the 1500s, these ice houses were used to store food and beverages.
