The “secret” Camellia Garden in Boboli is now open
Guided tours on Saturdays and Sundays until 10 May 2026
In Boboli there is a ‘secret garden’, known as the Camellia Garden.
During the Medici era, this space was strictly reserved for certain members of the grand ducal family; by the end of the 18th century, it was set aside for the cultivation of camellias, in keeping with the fashion of the time.
The garden is dominated by the species Camellia japonica, with a collection of 49 specimens belonging to 37 varieties. Some stand out for their size and colours, including the splendid “Candidissima”, dating back to 1830.
Usually closed to the public, this charming corner of Boboli is now open until 10 May 2026, on Saturdays and Sundays, with guided tours led by Boboli Garden staff, for groups of up to 25 people.
February and March: 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm
