The large Uffizi crane is finally being dismantled

After almost 20 years

The dismantling of the large crane by the worksite of the Uffizi has begun. In the courtyard of the world-renowned Florentine museum since 2006, the dismantling of the metal colossus will go on for a few days until 21 June, when a symbolic event will be held on the terrace of the Uffizi to celebrate its farewell in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli.

One of the most crucial and spectacular phases of the operation has been the removal and dropping of the heavy horizontal arm located at about sixty meters from the ground, which has been achieved thanks to the help of a maxi hook raised at high altitude. The delicate step has successfully been accomplished between 11.30 and 11.45 on 16 June 2025, a date that will go down in history.
