As part of the institutional visit by Korean president Lee Jae Myung, the agreement was signed by Simo-ne Verde, Director of the Uffizi Galleries, and by You Hong June, director of the National Museum of Korea
Italy and the Republic of Korea have joined forces thanks to a new agreement reached between Florence’s Uffizi Galleries, an institute of the Italian Ministry of Culture, and the National Museum of Korea in Seoul. A first step towards building a relationship of cultural sharing and exchange, the document was signed this afternoon in the Uffizi Library (“Biblioteca Magliabechiana”) by the Galleries’ Director Simone Verde, and by You Hong June, Director of the National Museum of Korea. The signing took place on the occasion of the institutional visit to the Uffizi by the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, accompanied by, among others, Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun, and Kim Choon-goo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Italy. President Lee Jae Myung arrived at the Gallery with his official delegation in the early afternoon, along with First Lady Kim Hea Kyung. They were welcomed by Director Simone Verde; Emilia Gatto, Ambassador of Italy in Korea, was also on hand. The approximately one-hour tour of the collections’ masterpieces visited some of the Museum’s most representative rooms, from Giotto to Botticelli and Leonardo, as well as the recently restored and refurbished Niobe Hall.
