Seated beneath a loggia, the Madonna holds the Child in her lap, offering Him a pomegranate. In Christian symbolism, this fruit represents, among various meanings, the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus. Meanwhile, the rose bush in the background alludes to the purity of Mary as the Rosa Mystica (a rose without thorns), being free from original sin.
