Long pleated orange silk muslin evening dress decorated with matching ostrich feathers.
After training in the prestigious Paris ateliers of Robert Piguet (1898-1953), Edward Molyneux (1891-1974) and Lucien Lelong (1889 -1958), where he worked alongside Christian Dior (1905- 1957), Pierre Balmain founded his own maison in 1945. At once a perfectionist and an experimenter, his work is remarkable for its purity of line and its occasionally bold combinations.
Donated by Cecilia Matteucci Lavarini, 2018
