Abito charleston Chanel
Maison Chanel
The sleeveless dress, a straight, fringed tube on a base of ice and black crêpe-chiffon, is decorated throughout with fringes made of glass and jet bugle beads in a nuanced palette played out in shades of beige and fumé silver. It has a round neckline and a silk and chif- fon fringed petticoat. Despite having lost its original label, the dress is unquestionably a Chanel because it was published in “Femina” magazine in November 1924. Gabrielle Chanel was the greatest in- terpreter of the new ideal of feminine beauty that took hold im- mediately after World War I. This dress belonged to the Marchesa Emilia Brichetto Airoldi di Robbiata Arnaboldi. Donated by Umberto Tirelli, 1986
