San Godenzo and its surroundings

Nature meets history in the town of San Godenzo, which arose around the eponymous abbey sitting on the border between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna

Ancient beech forests with their many-hued foliage bathe in the silence of the centuries. The time-worn stones of the Abbey of San Godenzo bear witness to the labours of the monks who tended the chestnut groves and founded the town. Dante and other Florentine exiles met here to plan their return to Florence.
